Making Friends at Darnall Station
05 Apr 2019
Learners from Endeavour have been working with Northern and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) on a project to improve Darnall Station in Sheffield and got involved in some social action.
Endeavour has formed the Friends of Darnall Station group and learners have come up with some ideas to brighten up the platforms and approaches to the station.
The first idea was to make a start on tidying up the immediate area as there was a lot of litter. Charlotte Kershaw, a Youth and Community Work student currently on placement at Endeavour, organised a litter pick at the station with learners from our Endeavour Education Centre.
We linked up with Northern and SYPTE, who helped promote the event in the local community and provided refreshments and a break out space for lunch. Over 35 Endeavour learners, staff and placement students took part in the litter pick and were joined by volunteers from Northern, SYPTE and local litter picking groups.
Charlotte said: “The litter pick went really well and we are all proud of the learners involved. Whilst we were doing the litter pick, members of the community who passed by congratulated the young people on what they were doing and said it was a massive improvement for the area. The young people could see what a positive contribution they made towards the day.”
The next stage of the project will be to build some raised beds on the platform and paint a mural.
