Employability BOOST for Sheaf Training Learners

29 Nov 2018

Endeavour’s BOOST project teamed up with Sopra Banking Software in Sheffield to run an employability skills day for young people with learning difficulties.

BOOST is working with local training provider Sheaf Training and wanted to offer an insight into working life for participants on their supported internships programme. Sopra Banking Software was happy to help and hosted the group at their offices in Sheffield City Centre.

Young people got to hear all about the company and its services before hearing from various employees about day to day life in the company, what they like about their roles there, and their personal routes into employment.

HR team members Claire Hughes and Jamie Ainley then gave a tour of the office and introduced the learners to some more of their colleagues.

We finished the day with a session on interview skills, before each participant was given a mock interview and valuable feedback by one of Sopra’s managers.

Graham Booth, Corporate Engagement Manager at Endeavour said of the day: “I loved that Claire and Jamie got so many of their colleagues involved in this day to provide a valuable insight into working life at Sopra Banking Software. It was a real boost for our learners’ confidence to meet them all and really great to see them coming out of their shells as the day went on”.

Jamie Ainley, Recruitment Advisor at Sopra Banking Software added: “We found the experience very rewarding as we felt we were giving back to the Sheffield community. It was great to see the learners taking an interest in what we do here at Sopra Banking Software and you could see they were picking up new interview techniques and skills during the experience. We hope they found it a valuable experience”.

We are always looking for companies to host career insight visits such as these. If you would like to support Endeavour learners with a similar visit then please contact Graham Booth on graham.booth@endeavour.org.uk or 07793 488871.
