Geeks on Peaks – Tour de Wales 2017

02 Aug 2017

Our regular supporters the Geeks on Peaks have just returned from Wales after undertaking their latest challenge to raise funds for Endeavour – cycling over 250 miles over three days from Anglesey to Cardiff.

The group of 22 cyclists, most of whom work for HSBC in Sheffield, started early on a rainy Thursday morning at the Travelodge in Holyhead, stopping off at The Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth and Llandrindod Wells en route.

Endeavour staff supported on the trip, providing transport to the start and finish points and much-needed meals, drinks and plenty of homemade flapjack at the check points.

The hills were tough, but scenery on the whole route was beautiful, taking in Mennai Bridge, Snowdonia National Park, the Brecon Beacons and Caerphilly Castle, before rolling in to Cardiff Bay in the shining sun on Saturday afternoon.

They raised nearly £20,000 in the process, including matched funding from HSBC thanks to their Pound for Pound scheme for staff.

The Geeks on Peaks are one of Endeavour’s biggest on-going supporters and have now raised over £125,000 for us to help support disadvantaged young people over the last five years

Group leader Michael Boardman said of the trip “once again the Geeks on Peaks and Endeavour got together to create an experience not to be forgotten. It was hard work but with huge smiles, and with the knowledge that young people will benefit greatly by the efforts of everyone involved”.

Endeavour Chief Executive Steve Turner said “we really enjoy working with Geeks on Peaks on these trips and are hugely grateful for the amazing amount of money they have raised for us. We are looking forward to next year’s trip, and wherever that may take us, already!”
