HSBC Cyclists in 2018 Charity Cycle Challenge

Geeks on Peaks – Tour de Scotland 2018

03 Aug 2018

Endeavour’s relationship with the Geeks on Peaks has continued into 2018 with another successful cycling trip under our belts.

The group, many of whom work in IT for HSBC in Sheffield, took on Scotland as their main challenge for 2018. A group of 19 cycled from Inverness to Dumbarton, via Fort William and Pitlochry – almost 300 miles over three days.

Michael Boardman and Gerard Hounsell from HSBC plotted the route, designed the roadbooks and drummed up support at HSBC, getting everyone involved and encouraging them to fundraise for Endeavour.

The trip itself was certainly a challenge as the area is not exactly flat, but the group were blessed with amazing sunny weather and stunning views through the Scottish highlands.  As in previous years, Endeavour provided assistance such as travel and support in our minibuses, booking hotels and transporting bikes and luggage, and preparing food and refreshments at checkpoints en route.

Totals are still to come in, but we are hoping to have raised around £12,000, which includes match funding from HSBC as part of their Pound for Pound scheme. Money raised will go towards improving our building to help us increase our vocational offer to disadvantaged young people, with some used as match funding on a project to support access to the arts.

Endeavour has really enjoyed working with the Geeks on Peaks over the last few years, but it goes two ways, with one of the cyclists saying “this trip is the highlight of my year!”

We are really grateful for all the funds raised, which now total nearly £140,000, making the Geeks on Peaks one of our biggest supporters. We’re already looking forward to next year’s trip, but would love to run similar trips with other companies. If you have a team into cycling and think this is something you’d like to get involved in, please get in touch with our fundraising team on or 0114 243 8219.
