Endeavour Education Centre end of Term Update
13 Apr 2017
As we break for Easter, here’s the latest update from the Endeavour Education Centre.
Weekly attendance for the term hit as high as 77%; 22 learners had over 90% for the term and 12 achieved 100%! This is a great achievement considering that many learners come to the Education Centre with at best 30% attendance, and sometimes as low as 0%.
Learners attend the Education Centre for a variety of reasons, but often because they are missing from or struggling in mainstream education, they are looked after children, young carers or new to the city. We help them overcome their barriers using our unique programmes of personal development education and social action.
A highlight of this term was the residential at Crookstone Barn in the Peak District. With supported travel kindly provided by Northern. 14 learners attended and all helped out with cooking and cleaning duties. Activities included team building games, orienteering, building fires, circus skills with Greentop and drumming with Brathay.
We also had support from a variety of companies including mentoring from Hometyre Sheffield, financial literacy workshops with Blue Wealth Capital, insight visits to Davy Markham‘s factory and employability sessions with Sainsbury’s The Moor.
Next up for the Education Centre is GCSEs. Last year our learners achieved an 87% pass rate, with some even gaining As and A* grades! Watch this space for this year’s results…
