Inside Out is a ‘through the gate’ programme aimed at young people coming out of custody. Working with the Wetherby Youth Offending Institution, (YOI) Nottinghamshire, Nottingham City, South Tees Valley and Darlington Youth Offending Services (YOS) we aim to help the young person leaving custody to reintergrate back into main stream society. The programme started in November 2011 and lasts for 3 years, funded by a grant from The Big Lottery. Underpinning the 8 week programme – 2 sessions in the YOI (Inside) and 6 weeks, 2 days per week on the ‘Outside’, is Endeavour’s expertise in delivering challenging outdoor activities and experiential learning, together by linking with the YOS, being able to offer advice on Finance and Housing to aid resettlement. Following the end of each 8 week programme the ‘Inside Out’ project workers will remain in contact with the young person to help ongoing, building up a database as the project progresses, to give the young people the best possible opportunity of getting their lives back on track. The key to the success of the project is in our project workers flexibility, in being available for the young person, and respecting their often chaotic lifestyles. The quality of the work carried out is substantiated through an innovative partnership of the YOI, YOS and Endeavour and the project aims to interact with 450 young people over the 3 years of delivery.
