Partners & Friends Day 2008

Back in the summer of 2008 Lee Cook, VOICE! Representative for the North East welcomed The Duke of Kent, guests, partners and young people to an event in celebration of the opening of the new Leicester Centre.

The event gave everyone an opportunity to experience Endeavour’s approach to working with young people. The High Sherriff of Leicestershire and the Lord Mayor of Leicester threw themselves into these activities along with all our guests whilst our patron and the Lord Lieutenant, Lady Gretton toured the teams offering helpful advice and chatting. Everyone discovered elements about how they worked together and shared their insights with the rest of the guests.

Duke of KentThese icebreaking activities were followed by presentations from two groups of our young people. The first of these was by young people from Westpark School who had taken part in Endeavour’s Leicester Schools Project. Interviewed expertly by Amanda Bray, their Project Worker, they shared their experiences using photographs and their memories of taking part in their programme.

ActivitiesThe second interview was conducted by the two Martins, Higgins and Betts, project workers from Chesterfield. Their subjects were young people from the Entry to Employment (E2E) group from Chesterfield. They gave a fascinating insight into themselves and their progress on their programme.

Dan Cooke, one of our Sheffield Project Workers gave a powerful account of his own engagement with Endeavour, from his early experiences as an addict finding support and encouragement on an Endeavour Programme to his current work as a charismatic project worker.

And finally, to end the event The Duke of Kent officially opened the Leicester Centre. We all look forward to developing Endeavour’s work in the Midlands with the support of new and old friends.
